Experimental Drawing Workshops
Alongside painting, I run drawing workshops and classes that use play to spark unanticipated outcomes. Working primarily with people who don’t consider themselves artists, I find ways to help them rediscover their creativity and build their confidence.
Some workshops are based around Surrealist games or mindfulness concepts - Exquisite Corpse drawings, breath-based exercises, stream-of-consciousness development of ideas. Others use sensory prompts to kindle creative sparks (drawing in response to music, touch, taste or smell. I encourage people to get back in touch with the instinctive enjoyment they had as a child, and to quiet the critical internal voice which impedes creative development.
There is a virtuous circle, as discoveries and ambiguities that emerge in workshops feed into my painting practice, while learnings from my own practice direct my suggestions for participants. As participants to develop resilience and a self-sustaining art practice, at the same time I develop my own understanding of how the collective unconscious works.
Recent workshops and classes have been at OVADA, Fusion Arts, and EveryBody Studio.
