Live Painting

This collection began life during a jazz gig in Oxford: fully immersed in the music, I began drawing the sensation of being absorbed by the performance, allowing the melody and tempo to dictate the colour and lines created.

As the idea grew, I collaborated with other creatives: multi-genre dance musician Mr Bruce; folk singer and conservationist Sam Lee; performance poet and artist Gommie; musician and composer HUX; immersive music and video artist conveners Palindrome. Drawing and painting at gigs across Oxford, London, Bristol and the South Downs, the work revolves around the magic of live performance, the immersion in music and community, the circular flow of energy between performer and audience. And as time went on, another theme kept recurring: how music can be a way to process grief - something I write more about here.
